summer style on the way

It's been a week since I last wore pants. Well, I had yoga pants on yesterday but really I considered that pajamas, so I'll stick with my original statement. One week. No pants.

Of course I haven't been walking around with my girly bits hanging all everywhere. The lack of pants is part of the transition to spring and summer wardrobes. Snow is off the ground, humidity has crept into the air and the temperatures are regularly above 10*C (although this weekend we passed the 20* mark). One of the many delightful aspects of that is that I can walk around in skirts and tights and not freeze my tuckus off. Actually I'm even about to be ditching the tights, it's getting so warm.

So out comes my summer wardrobe. Dresses! Skirts! Shoes (instead of boots)! Cardigans and blazers for work instead of sweaters. Oh it's glorious. It also maybe lets me ignore how tight my good jeans are getting. I could stand to lose five pounds, but I'm the only person who notices right now.

I love this shift in my wardrobe. Even when I'm sticking with the exact same colour palette that I've used previously I just feel so free and fresh with skirts and dresses. It's amazing how much more like myself I feel when I start to slip into the summer clothing. My warm weather style feels genuinely me and I feel genuinely pretty wearing these clothes; it's a way I don't connect with my winter wardrobe. Oh I mean I love my skinny jeans and knee high boots ... but I don't feel completely myself in them. But dresses and blazers? Yeah that's me.

  1. Ohw how change in the weather can cheer one up. And wearing skirts and dresses can really make you feel free. In the netherlands its supposed to be aroudn 20 degrees right now but we keep on having a colder period which I don't mind as long as its not raining all the time ;-)
Did you already decide to take the seam out?

    1. The rain is definitely the worst. Cool weather isn't so bad, but cold and rainy is just miserable.

I haven't torn out the seam yet. I'm still debating. It's about an hour's work to pull it out and sew it again, which isn't all that much, but I'm not sure if it bothers me enough to pull.

  2. I am so jealous right now... I want to wear and skirts and dresses. Over here it's still cold, I can not manage without a scarf.

I was at the center today, and there is a total disconnect with the real weather, I fell in love with this very cute coral sandals but I am not sure I will get to use them for more than 1 week.

    Sigh.

    1. Isn't it crazy how disconnected stores and the weather seem to be? There were shorts in the stores here while there were still piles of snow on the ground.

We've just warmed up enough for no scarves, although I have been keeping on long sleeves outdoors.

  3. First of all, totally envious of your summery weather! One of the things I miss ost about Canada is the clear distinction between four different seasons...Here in the UK (and lots of western Europe, really), it's kind of just cool and grey, or cool and greyer.

Also, in the UK the word 'pants' = underpants. So the eight year old in me giggled a bit reading this post. I admit it :)

    1. Canada definitely has some very interesting seasons, although lately we've been bypassing spring and moving straight to summer.

  4. Ohhh, I love that too! I'm all about sandals as soon as the weather permits... I hate feeling like my feet are confined! Yuck! And not having to layer my clothing is another HUGE plus. YAY FOR WARMER WEATHER! (Although we've been having crazy rain these past couple of days =/)

    1. That reminds me of a friend who starts wearing flip flops as soon as she can get away without getting frostbite. It's nice to have the extra freedom.
